Gran Caffe L'Aquila
Overview
Gran Caffe L'Aquila was a landmark caffe located on Piazza Duomo in the capital city of the Abruzzo region. In 2007, Gran Caffe L'Aquila won Caffe of the Year for all of Italy, but was then tragically damaged in the devastating 2009 earthquake, which destroyed the city. In 2012, Italian gelato champion Stefano Biasini met local award-winning restaurateur Riccardo Longo, which led to the rebirth of one of Italy's most beloved cafes in Philadelphia. Today, Gran Caffe L'Aquila in Philadelphia proudly features gelato handcrafted on-site, as well as four house-roasted coffee blends, a rotating local Italian city-focused weekly special menu, wines from all 20 regions of Italy, and an Italian cultural and language school that meets on Saturdays.
